Mosiah 19:11

“Now it came to pass that the king commanded them that all the men should leave their wives and their children, and flee before the Lamanites.”

What I take away from this scripture and the discussion in class that went along with it is the power that Satan can have in not only the lives of men but the lives of everyone. The King, much like Satan, is trying to persuade the men to take the easy way out by abandoning their families in order to save themselves. It is a testament to how important it is that we have faith and trust in God.

One thing that Brother Griffin talked about in class that really stood out to me was how the message of Satan has not changed. To this day, Satan still tries to persuade men to leave their families and come to pornography, adultery, and a number of others things that ruin the family dynamic. He has a way of catching us in the heat of the moment when we see no better alternative or way to fix our problems. It is only when we have what Brother Griffin called a “wake up moment” that we realize heeding to the persuasions of Satan was a major mistake.

What this teaching taught me is to never get caught up in the moment and to never look for an easy way out when things get difficult in life. Whenever we face difficulties or struggles in life we need to have faith in God that things will get better. Often times, he has a solution to the problem that we never even saw as a possibility.
